How Versley handles your information
Versley is a scripture-reading habit app: it wakes you up with an alarm you silence by reading, and keeps a private record of your streak. This page explains, plainly, what the app collects and why.
Before this goes live
Drafted from this session's own read of the Versley codebase — accurate to what the app does today. Have a lawyer check it before publishing, and update it the day real payments or new data collection ship.
1Who this covers
This policy covers Versley, the mobile app published by Boston White (“Versley,” “we,” “us”). It applies to everyone who installs or uses the app, whether or not they ever create an account.
2Information we collect
Automatically, the moment you open the app
Versley gives every install an anonymous session with our backend (Supabase) so your reading plan and streak work immediately, with no sign-up required. This session is tied to a random identifier on your device, not to your name or email, unless you choose to sign in.
If you sign in with Apple or Google
Signing in is optional. It exists to back up your data and bring it to a new phone. If you use it, we receive:
- Your name, if the provider shares it
- Your email address — or, if you choose “Hide My Email” with Sign in with Apple, the private relay address Apple generates instead of your real one
- A unique account identifier from Apple or Google
We never see your Apple or Google password. That exchange happens entirely between you and Apple or Google.
What you create inside the app
When you're signed in, the following syncs to our servers so it's there if you reinstall or switch devices:
| What | Examples |
| Your onboarding answers | Why you're starting, your goals, your denomination/library choice |
| Journal entries | Title, scripture reference, and the text you wrote |
| Liked verses & highlights | Which verses, and the highlight color/word range you chose |
| Reading progress | Your current bookmark, completed days, streak and challenge state |
If you never sign in, this same information still exists so the app works, but it lives only under your anonymous device session — see the next section.
What stays on your device only
Your alarm schedule (times, days, which scripture each one opens to) and app settings never leave your phone, signed in or not. Neither does anything handled by iOS's AlarmKit framework, which schedules the actual wake-up alerts at the operating-system level.
Notifications
If you grant permission, Versley schedules local reminder and streak notifications on your device. These are generated and delivered entirely by iOS itself — we don't operate a push-notification server and can't see whether a notification was shown.
What we deliberately don't collect
Versley has no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDK of any kind. We don't request your location, contacts, microphone, camera, or photo library, and nothing in the app can access them.
3How we use it
- To run the app itself: schedule your alarms, show your reading plan, and track your streak
- To back up and sync your journal, highlights, and progress across devices, if you're signed in
- To respond when you contact us for support
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell, rent, or trade it to any third party, ever.
4Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that make Versley work, and only as much as each one needs:
- Supabase — hosts our backend database and handles authentication. Supabase processes data on our behalf and doesn't use it for its own purposes.
- Apple and Google — if you use their sign-in option. Their own privacy policies govern what they do with your account on their end.
We don't work with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics companies, so there's no one else to list.
5How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. Signing out clears Versley's data from that device but does not delete your account or its data from our servers — that's a separate step.
You can permanently delete your account and everything tied to it anytime from Settings > Account > Delete Account in the app. This takes effect immediately — your journal, highlights, liked verses, and progress are deleted from our servers right away, and this phone is cleared back to a fresh install. It can't be undone.
6Your choices
- Notifications — turn them off anytime in iOS Settings > Versley > Notifications.
- Signing out — available in Settings inside the app; this wipes the app's local data from that device.
- Deleting your account — Settings > Account > Delete Account in the app, anytime. See above.
- A copy of your data — email us and we'll send you what we have on file.
7Security
Your synced data is protected by row-level security on our database — each account can only ever read or write its own rows — and all traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we don't store anything we don't need in order to run the app.
8Children's privacy
Versley isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
9International users
Our service providers may process and store information in the United States or other countries where they operate. By using Versley, you understand your information may be transferred outside the country you live in.
10Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know inside the app.
